Your 5 Step Emotional Reset Guide

Dec 16, 2025

You ever feel like you’re running on fumes?

Not physically tired—emotionally tired. Like you’re carrying the weight of everyone’s expectations on your shoulders. Your business. Your family. Your team. And you can’t even remember the last time you took a real breath.

I know that feeling all too well.

In fact, I once pushed myself so far I thought the only way out was to quit everything—my business, my marriage… even my life.

But here’s the truth:

I didn’t need to quit. I needed a reset.

And if you’re reading this right now, I’m willing to bet that’s what you need too.

This isn’t fluffy self-care advice. It’s a practical reset guide to recharge your emotional battery and come back stronger—without blowing up your life to get relief.

Let’s get into it.

Step 1: Call Out the Crash

Most entrepreneurs and high-achievers don’t want to admit they’re emotionally crashing.

We muscle through.
We slap on a fake smile.
We act like everything is fine.

On the surface it might look okay. But one layer deeper? Everything’s falling apart.

The first step to a real reset is self-awareness.

You have to be able to say:

“I’m not doing okay right now.”

Years ago, I shut down my business with $120,000 in debt, seven lawsuits, and a home in foreclosure. My whole world felt like it was collapsing—and I was pretending to everyone that I had it together.

Inside, I was a mess.

Things didn’t start to heal until I admitted out loud that I was overwhelmed. That honesty became the trigger for everything else. That was the turning point.

So if that’s you right now, be honest with yourself.

Not dramatic. Not weak.
Just real.

Step 2: Step Out of the Noise

When you’re drowning emotionally, you can’t reset in the same environment that’s burning you out.

You need a physical shift.

That doesn’t mean a three-week vacation in Cabo. It can be simple:

  • shut off your phone for a while

  • take a long walk

  • work somewhere different (a coffee shop instead of your office)

  • sit outside instead of scrolling inside

Because here’s the reality:

Noise is the enemy of clarity.

Step away—even for 30 minutes—and you’ll be surprised how quickly your nervous system starts to come down.

Quick question: What’s one small thing that helps you find calm in a chaotic day? (A walk? Music? A shower? A quiet car ride?)
Write it down somewhere or share it with someone—you never know who needs your trick.

Step 3: Reset Your Mind With Small Wins

Most people assume a reset means overhauling everything.

It doesn’t.

The fastest way to reset emotionally is to create quick wins.

Small wins tell your brain: I’m back in control.
And that sense of control breaks the spiral of overwhelm.

Some examples:

  • clear off your desk

  • make one important call you’ve been avoiding

  • go to the gym (or just move your body for 10 minutes)

  • cook one healthy meal

  • clean one small area (not the whole house—one corner)

Small wins aren’t trivial.
They’re psychological leverage.

So ask yourself:

What’s one small win you can claim today?

Step 4: Talk It Out (Before You Explode)

This one can be tough—especially for the guys who were raised with “suck it up and deal with it.”

But bottling emotions is like shaking a soda bottle.

Eventually, it explodes.

Find one trusted person:

  • a mentor

  • a spouse

  • a coach

  • a friend

  • a family member

And let it out.

I wouldn’t be where I am today if I hadn’t leaned into trusted relationships during dark times. And here’s what surprised me: every time I shared my struggles, I expected judgment… but instead, I felt lighter.

It’s like opening a pressure valve.

You don’t need to have the perfect words. You just need to stop carrying it alone.

Step 5: Anchor Back to Your Purpose

The most powerful reset isn’t just calming down.

It’s remembering why you’re doing what you’re doing.

What are you fighting for?
What matters enough to keep going?

When I felt like I was drowning, what solidified my future wasn’t a magical tactic. It was perspective.

My wife.
My kids.
My mission to help other entrepreneurs.

That’s what reminded me my story wasn’t over.

Because when you re-anchor to purpose, the weight shifts from:

“I can’t do this”
to
“It matters too much for me to quit.”

If Your Emotional Tank Is Empty, Start Here

If you’re in that place right now, remember this reset guide:

  1. Call out the crash

  2. Step out of the noise

  3. Create small wins

  4. Talk it out

  5. Anchor back to purpose

This isn’t theory. It’s what saved me when I was ready to give up.

And if this helped you, don’t keep it to yourself—share it with another entrepreneur who might be carrying a silent burden.

Because sometimes the greatest gift we can give someone is the reminder:

You’re not alone.
